Castle map
Museum shop

The shop at the Oberhausmuseum offers a large selection of toys, postcards, books and lots of other nice things. The museum shop is located right next to the ticket desk and is open to all visitors to Veste Oberhaus during regular opening hours.

For bookworms and explorers

Our museum shop has something for everyone. Young readers will find a wide selection of exciting stories about dragons, knights, princesses, and heroes to discover. Adults will find a range of non-fiction books on life in the Middle Ages, castles and fortresses, and local history.

Greetings from Passau

Who doesn’t love receiving a greeting in the post? Beautiful postcards featuring views of the Veste Oberhaus and the city of Passau are just waiting to be sent around the world. Our magnets also make perfect souvenirs or keepsakes. A memory that sticks.

Custom-made Passauer Wolf

Exclusively available in our museum shop is a plaque featuring the Passau coat of arms – the red Passau Wolf. The plaque was produced by the Bavarian toy manufacturer Vah, whose other products are also available in our shop.

The Veste Oberhaus cut-out sheet

The museum shop offers a special paper cut-out sheet: St George the knight searching for the dragon. The A4-sized paper cut-out sheet can be cut and glued together – all you need is a small piece of string and a little dexterity. Once you’ve finished assembling it, pull the string – and the big dragon appears as if by magic. Lots of fun for creative visitors to Veste Oberhaus, young and old alike!

Accessibility

Castle complex / Exhibition spaces
Unfortunately, the outdoor areas of Veste Oberhaus are not fully accessible. As a public institution, we are committed to improving accessibility and are currently working on plans to reduce barriers. However, due to the listed status of the buildings, it is not possible to make the entire site fully accessible.

We nevertheless warmly welcome visitors with disabilities. There are various ways we can accommodate your needs—please contact us in advance to find out which areas of the museum are accessible to you.

The Neuwall viewpoint can be reached from the car park via a paved path and a lift. Please note, however, that the path on the Neuwall itself is not paved; assistance by a companion is recommended. The outer and inner courtyards have gravel, grass, or uneven historic paving.

The observation tower, exhibition rooms, St George’s Chapel, and the Batterie Linde viewpoint (with views of the three rivers) are not accessible. Please also note that the so-called “cold room” (dark and cold) in the exhibition “Fascination of the Middle Ages – Life on Earth” may be unsuitable for some visitors (e.g. people with autism).

Admission
The ticket office and the Oberhausmuseum shop can be accessed via three steps. Visitors with disabilities are entitled to a reduced admission fee. An accompanying person registered on a disability card is admitted free of charge.

Car park
Designated accessible parking spaces are available in the car park above Veste Oberhaus, at the level of the sports fields.

Shuttle bus
The shuttle bus from Rathausplatz is wheelchair accessible (ramp available). The stop is located within the castle grounds near the bridge to the Outer Bailey.

Guided tours
We offer guided tours for pre-booked groups who bring their own sign language interpreter. Upon request, we can also help arrange an interpreter.

Toilets
Accessible toilet facilities are located in the Bärengraben. Another accessible public toilet is available at the sports field above the castle grounds; it can be opened with a Eurokey.

Seating
The Oberhausmuseum provides folding stools, which can also be used as walking aids. They are available at the ticket office and may be taken into the exhibitions and outdoor areas.

Cloakroom
Lockers are located in the museum’s entrance area and are accessible at ground level.

Restaurant
The restaurant "Das Oberhaus" has disabled access.
