Oberhausmuseum

Within the historic walls of Veste Oberhaus, the Oberhausmuseum presents exhibitions on medieval life at the castle and on the eventful history of the city of Passau and its significance as a trading centre at the confluence of three rivers. Historical weapons, gleaming suits of armour, Gothic panel paintings and many other precious exhibits invite visitors on a journey into the past. Particularly impressive is St George’s Chapel, situated in the heart of the Veste Oberhaus, with its unique cycle of 14th-century frescoes. At numerous interactive stations, visitors can experience for themselves that life at the castle was, above all, cold and dark, and that many a knight’s helmet offered surprisingly little field of vision. From the Observation Tower and the Linde Battery, one can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Passau and the surrounding countryside.
